Over the history of commercial businesses and municipalities utilizing filter presses for a multitude of applications, two basic and reliable mathematical formulas have been developed to determine how to size a filter press.
Most “standard” slurries are covered by the first formula, which is the basis for our Filter Press Sizing Calculator. The second formula covers slurries composed of metal hydroxides, which are often found in wastewater from metal plating and finishing operations.
Many years of experience across a wide variety of filter press applications provides a knowledge base that serves our customers well.
Feel free to contact us at any time to discuss your particular solid-liquid project.
Please work to obtain in advance as much of the information as possible outlined below. If one or more criteria are not available, our technicians can test a sample of the slurry, and/or use some standard data.
Information Needed to Determine How to Size a Filter Press
Type of slurry to be processed
Amount of slurry to be processed in a given amount of time expressed in either:
—Gallons per minute, per hour, per day or per week
—Pounds of solids (100% dry basis) per time period
Number of hours per day, and days per week the process operates
Percent solids (by weight) in slurry
Specific gravity of slurry (if available)
Process operating temperature
Density of wet filter cake
Chemical conditioning amounts, if required (D.E., etc.)
Press location: Indoor or outdoor, temperature range
Desired cake thickness (std. is 32mm – 1 1/4”)
Manual, Semi-automatic or Automatic closure and control automation needs to be specified
Other (Please specify optional features required)
Laboratory Testing
After treatment, we can return to you the clean water (filtrate) and filter cake, along with an analytical report of our findings.
Services range from feasibility testing of your materials to providing small portable pilot filter press units for on-site testing.
